The recruitment challenge is that the pharmacy is located in a small town, which is not a well-known and attractive place for relocating professionals. Also in Switzerland it is necessary to have the abilitation to work in a pharmacy (the master study is not enough) so that we can ask the MEBEKO (government office) to recognize the candidate as a pharmacist in Switzerland.
Our search was focused on German-speaking countries such as Germany, Austria, and we also conducted executive searches of specialists from our internal database who speak German and are interested in similar career changes.
We had to present a large number of candidates (more than 20 specialists) and conduct a large number of interviews before we found two suitable pharmacists. The challenge was also budgetary restrictions, as for the initial period of work the employer cannot provide a budget that is much higher than the specialist's earnings in his home country. The employer must be motivated primarily by new experience and development to make such a decision. In this case study, we faced the challenge of finding a specialist at the intersection of IT and the pharmaceutical industry. The candidate had to have not only strong IT knowledge (like DevOps and system administrator), but also a background in pharmaceuticals and laboratory research. The client company has developed unique software for laboratories and pharmaceutical companies, and this specialist would have to work closely on the client's premises in the implementation of the purchased software.
